Learn to Play Guitar - Some Great Tips For Beginners

You should always do some research before buying your own guitar at a random music instrument store! I still remember how I got my first guitar: I went straight to a large music store and asked one salesman for recommendations, I told him I'm a total beginner and I just need one to get me quickly started. The guitar I finally chose only cost me $140, but it didn't take me much time to find out it was a terrible choice... The problem is there's a big gap between the strings and the frets, so I would really have to hold it extremely tight and press hard to just make it sound right. After having a try with my friends guitar which cost him about $300, I immediately knew what a good guitar would mean to you.

So here's my advice for serious beginners: be SURE that you get a high quality guitar to start with, by high quality I mean you should definitely avoid those $100 dollars guitars if you don't want your learning process to be miserable. Well, make sure you don't go too far for high quality, a $1000 dollar guitar won't make you a guitarist in two days.

You should not start with songs which are too hard for your level because you will spend tons of time frustrating yourself. Professional guitar players are known as professionals for reasons. You are not gonna play in NFL the first day you touch a football, it's just impossible. You should never deny the learning curve in it. Actually I decided to learn guitar after watching some cool performance at a party, so without doubt my first try is to play my favorite songs. I didn't make any progress except that the frustration almost made me quit.

Learning guitar usually requires a great deal of practice, but you need to know that practice is not all. It may need some time to grow callouses which can protect your fingers from injury and pain. For beginners, I would suggest you start with some very simple songs such as "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", or you can just practice chords. By doing this, you would easily let your fingers gradually get used to the string and become stronger.

One of the easiest songs for you guys who can't wait to show off is As Tears Go By - The Rolling Stones, it's only made up of three verses, and each verse contains four lines. Also, most of the chords are close so that it's quite easy for you to switch. Don't forget to check out YouTube for lots of useful tutorials, and I'm sure you will quickly improve your skills.

The most important thing is, you should always enjoy every moment when you are playing. Or you would easily give up. Hope my advice helps and have a good time learning guitar!

Top Ten Theme Parties for Girls

Image : http://www.flickr.com

All-girl parties are fun to plan as girls generally demand less organized activity and are more prepared to just "play" and be creative if the ideas and materials are provided. Slumber parties are really popular, mainly for girls around 7-11 years old and can be easy for the parents to organize. Tea parties are also great for little girls who enjoy dressing up and playing "grown-up "with tiny cups and saucers, miniature cakes and tiny cookies and sandwiches. But choosing an overall theme also makes the experience fun and relevant to the girls' interests and gives the busy parent a head start on getting the supplies together. Decorations, tableware, piñatas, party favors, invitations and banners can all be themed and color coordinated whether the party is indoors or outside, at home or at another venue.

Parties based on TV or movie stars can be a little challenging. High School Musical parties remain popular as the movie was Disney Channel's most watched movie in 2006 and version 4 is coming out in 2010. The high school cheerleaders theme is easy to replicate, with the WildCat colors of red and white. Depending on the age group the main activity could be karaoke with songs from the Broadway show. Hannah Montana parties can also be based on music with a rock star theme, star-shaped balloons and a stage for performances. Video the event and show it one year later!

Barbie Parties are easy as every little girl has a favorite Barbie doll and there are so many ways to keep little hands busy if they bring their favorite Barbie doll. They can have a Barbie doll dress up or hair styling competitions but better still, let them decorate some cheap sunglasses with glitter and rhinestones and they get to take them home afterwards. Parties with a fairy theme are also great for girls who love to dress up and play make-believe. The guests could be invited to come in costume or you could provide leotards and materials for them to make their own wings and wands. The traditional party games easily transform into Fairy Freeze Dance, Pass the Wand and Pin the Wing on the Fairy.

Disney Princess parties can be based on one favorite character such as Sleeping Beauty or Snow White and the party girl gets to be Princess for the day. Crowns, tiaras, a throne, glass slippers, royal fanfares, a red carpet - the more royal the event the better. Dora the Explorer still has a huge following and this theme lends itself to great games outdoors. An Aloha or Hula Party is perfect for a summer party at the beach or by a pool with flower leis and hula skirts or you could follow an undersea theme with fish, mermaids, shells and seaweed.

A pets' party based on toys like My Little Pony, or a cartoon character like Clifford or Blue's Clues can be inspiration for ideas, games, activities, and recipes. Of course, a litter of real puppies old enough for petting would be a star turn. Another very popular idea is the Spa Party for girls, with supplies of makeup and nail polish and fun exercises and dancing to music. This requires some advance planning but with imagination, the "diet food" could involve fruit smoothies and vegetable dips, the costume could be robes and a towel and the take-home favors easy if you can get free samples from local beauty supply stores.

Another very popular birthday party idea for girls is where they all become little chefs and cook everything themselves from pizza to cookies. The complexity of the recipes - and the cleanup - depends on the age of the girls but turning your home into an Italian trattoria for the afternoon could be sensational. The more preparation you do the better and Italian music, tourist posters on the walls, and tiramisu for dessert would make for a party even the parents could enjoy. And that could be an unexpected bonus after all your hard work and planning!

Cheerleading Tryouts: What You Need To Know To Be Prepared

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Trying out for a cheerleading team can be one of the most exciting and scary experiences in a young girl's life. To make a high school or lower cheerleading team it is essential to come prepared for try-outs. Here are some tips to help you be ready for your cheerleading experience.

First of all, make sure you know the requirements for your cheerleading squad. Many teams require at least some basic tumbling skills, such as proficient cartwheels and round-offs, and quite a few are now requiring more advanced skills including back handsprings or even back tucks. Other requirements may include passing grades for a school cheerleading squad, a knowledge of basic cheering skills and jumps, splits, and the ability to make cheering and fund raising events. Talk to the cheerleading director or coach if you are considering trying out for the team to learn what requirements your squad has. This person may also be willing to help you learn these important skills before try-outs begin.

Once you have determined the requirements for your squad, you should get to work right away improving your cheerleading skills. Many of the things you will need to learn take time for your body to be able to do. For example, learning the splits is a process that can take several months depending on your current skill level. I will be writing articles with recommendations on stretches you can do to be able to do the splits and to improve overall flexibility.

I recommend getting ready for try-outs by first improving the flexibility of your body. If you are new to cheerleading and tumbling, you should spend at least 20 minutes every day just stretching. There are many stretches you can do to increase your flexibility in your legs, back, and arms. Flexibility is important to have in everything a cheerleader does.

Tumbling is another important aspect of cheerleading. It is important to take one skill at a time and learn each completely before moving to the next skill to insure confidence and gracefulness. Some things to watch for when doing any tumbling skills are hand placement and alignment. Your body should always travel in a straight line. Start with the cartwheel. It may to helpful to draw a chalk line to make sure your leading foot, hands, and landing position are in one straight path. Once you are confident with your cartwheel, switch to learning round-offs. Video tape yourself performing these skills and see how you look. Make sure your legs are straight when in the air and that tumbling looks smooth and easy.

Once you have learned the tumbling skills mentioned above, you are ready to learn to do a back handspring. When learning more advanced tumbling skills, it is important to have an instructor and spotter present. This will help insure that you learn these skills correctly and prevent injury. An instructor can also trouble-shoot your tumbling and help you develop these skills more quickly than on your own. An instructor will likely have you start by learning to do a walk-over and practicing handstands. You can work on these skills on your own so you are ready to advance more quickly when you begin working with an instructor. There are mats that are designed to assist learning back handsprings including handspring trainers and the training wedges. Back handsprings are designed to be done on their own and in tumbling passes. Standing back handsprings are sometimes incorporated into cheers and are often more difficult than round-off back handsprings. A back handspring can take up to a year for a dedicated beginner to do it confidently on her own. If you have previous tumbling experience, that time can be shortened significantly.

For try-outs, you may have to show that you can do a standing back handspring if your squad requires this skill for cheers. Squads are more likely to require this skill if they compete in national cheerleading competitions. You will probably also be required to put together a tumbling pass to perform before the judges. This tumbling pass will require your best tumbling skills and should begin and end with cheering. When cheering in a tumbling pass, as with every time you cheer, it is appropriate to yell from the diaphragm cheers such as "go team" and "we're number 1". Yelling from the diaphragm will protect your voice and sound better than screaming. Yelling sounds like "Whoo" is not appropriate for cheering, and most judges will doc your score for doing so.

You will also need to be able to do jumps for cheerleading try-outs. These include the spread eagle, toe-touch, front hurdler, and right herkie and left herkie (also know as side hurdler). Ask the cheerleading coach or someone else like a former cheerleader to help you with technique for your jumps. Important things to remember are to point your toes, place your arms correctly as they should be for the particular jump you are doing, and above all smile, smile, smile. Once you have the technique down you should work on improving the height of your jumps and the height of your legs when in the air.

You will probably be required to learn some new cheers and a dance the week of try-outs. New cheers and dances are generally used to make try-outs fair for all the participants. Everyone has the same amount of time to learn the try-out material. Be sharp in all of your movements. Your arms should remain tight when doing cheers so they do not look sloppy. Cheer loudly, clearly, and not too fast so you are easy to understand. Work on your facial expressions. Pull out that video camera again and record yourself doing the cheers and dance. This will help you see where you can use improvement or to make sure you look happy and confident. Practice all you can so you know the material completely. You don't want to be the participant who is watching and copying others doing the dance beside you. Ask other people including the cheerleading coach if they will watch you cheer or dance and critique you. This will help you get over the try-out jitters and can be really helpful.

When tryouts come, be prepared. Bring a water bottle, towel, snacks, extra hair bands, your good luck charm, and anything else you think you may need to help you feel prepared and relaxed.

That is it. These are all the skills you will need to know for try-outs. Once you have done all you can do to prepare, try not to be nervous. Just remember to smile all the time and make eye contact with the judges. Be as confident as possible. If you don't have the best techniques for all the skills, don't worry. Many times, cheerleaders who can't do more than a cartwheel make the team over girls with more advanced skills because they are fun to watch and look like they love cheering. Be positive during the try-outs and once again, SMILE!

Clint Murchison and Jerry Jones - Owners At Opposite Ends of the Field

The Dallas Cowboys, of the National Football League, have been a success on and off the football field for more than 30 years. Dubbed "America's Team", they are a fan favorite in the state of Texas, the USA and internationally, as well. It is the play on and off the field, and the individuals who have contributed to that play, that is at the heart of the Cowboys great success.

Through its franchise history, the Dallas Cowboys have had a number of all-stars whose skills and achievements have created legends and contributed to Dallas Cowboys history. Endless players have donned the single star and blue and white jerseys of the Dallas Cowboys and taken to the field at Texas Stadium. In so doing, some of them, such as Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith have become legends.

The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most successful teams in the history of the National Football League and hold numerous league records, thanks to countless players over the years, not to mention the team's coaches who have walked the sidelines day after day. Cowboys football success can also be attributed to the dedicated and solid team owners they have had over their forty plus years of existence.

When the Dallas Cowboys franchise was established in 1960, the founding owner was Dallas, Texas, native Clint Murchison. Murchison was a hands-off owner who believed in surrounding himself with experts in the different aspects of the game. Hence, he delegated operational control of the Cowboys to General Manager Tex Schramm, Coach Tom Landry and Scouting/Personnel Director Gil Brandt. Landry enjoyed total authority in the day to day running of the team while Brandt was given free reign in the drafting and scouting of players. Murchison's non interferring approach and lack of second guessing has been said by many to be the driving force behind the Dallas Cowboy's great success and their 20 consecutive winning seasons from 1965 to 1985.

In 1984, Murchison sold the Dallas Cowboys to an investment syndicate. In 1989 the team was bought by Jerry Jones. It quickly became evident that the ownership style of Murchison and Jones was at opposite ends of the field.

Jerrel Wayne "Jerry" Jones, a star running back for his North Little Rock, Arkansas, high school team, would go on to play play guard at the University of Arkansas where Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer were among his teammates. In addition to owning the Cowboys, Jones has since taken on the role of General Manager. Of all the owners in professional sports, he is considered to be one of the most involved with his team on a day-to-day basis. Indeed, Jones can be seen on the sidelines of every Cowboys game.

Upon becoming owner, Jones fired Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry, the only coach the Cowboys had ever known, and promptly hired his former teammate, Jimmy Johnson to take over the coaching duties. The unceremonial firing of Landry did not go over well with Cowboy fans and to this day he has not been forgiven. The dismissal of Landry was was the first sign that the new owner of Cowboys football was headed in a new and opposite direction.

With Johnson at the helm, the Cowboys became Super Bowl Champions two consecutive years. Instead of giving due credit to Johnson, Jones himself took the credit saying "any one of 500 coaches could have won those Super Bowls" considering the talent that he had drafted and signed for the team. Jones also made a comment that he was going to replace Johnson with another former teammate, Barry Switzer. Although Jones later denied this statement it turned out to be true and so ended Jimmy Johnson's tenure as Dallas Cowboys coach, despite him having lead his team to two consecutive Super Bowl victories. Dallas Cowboys coach Switzer took the team to their fifth Super Bowl Championship in 1995. Since Switzer, Jones has hired Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Bill Parcels and most recently Wade Phillips to lead America's Team.

Clint Murchison's - let the experts lead - approach was the total opposite of Jerry Jones - get involved - approach. Indeed, Jones is constantly criticized by Cowboys fans for being too involved with all aspects of the team. Although Murchison and Jones' ownership styles are at opposite ends of the field each of their unique techniques have proven to be fruitful for the Dallas Cowboys and for themselves. The NFL Dallas Cowboys have been an exceptional team through the years thanks in part to these dynamic owners.

Cheerleaders and Pee Wee Football

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There is a mixed feeling about the worth of cheerleaders to the youth football program. I personally feel that from a financial point of view cheerleaders are moneymakers. The insurance is cheap and there is no equipment to buy, just uniforms. Some people feel they add ambiance to the whole football day.

As a coach, I feel the cheerleaders can be a pain in the rump. I suggest you check with the league and see what their rules are pertaining to how much cooperation and involvement you need to have with them. If you are required to deal with them make sure you talk to who is in charge of the cheerleading squad for your age level. I have found it best to set the guidelines up front so there is no miscommunication. Make sure you let the cheerleader's coaches know what you will allow not only for homecoming but also for each game. Make sure the cheerleaders do not go beyond what your league's rules state. For example if no pyramids are allowed then make sure that is known.

Homecoming and/or Rally night is the big event for the cheerleaders so try to cut them some slack. I usually let my kids run through a banner and share a snack with the girls after the game. If you are having a big feast have Team Mom get the parent's of the girls involved.

Over the years, the cheerleaders are usually out of the way during the youth football game. They take center stage on the main field when you are at halftime.

The Dallas Cowboys Jump Out To A Great Start

The 2007 Dallas Cowboys season is now into its fourth week with some teams looking for their first win and other teams looking to continue their undefeated streak. The Dallas Cowboys fall into the latter category as they get ready to tackle the St Louis Rams this weekend in pursuit of their fourth straight victory.

The Dallas Cowboys started off the 2007 season by winning at home against the New York Giants 45-35. The high scoring game finished with six touchdowns and 478 yards for the Cowboys. Tony Romo threw four touchdown passes averaging 23 yards on his 15 completions. On the other side, the New York Giants posted four touchdowns and 448 yards. It was a game in which the offenses ruled.

Following their opening win the Dallas Cowboys next faced the Miami Dolphins. Once again the Dallas Cowboys offense proved to be formidable as they defeated the Dolphins, in their home opener, 37-20. The Dolphins looked to be hanging in tough against the Cowboys as they took a 13-10 lead on the first drive of the second half. The Cowboys strong offense however could not be contained. In the third quarter Tony Romo threw to Tony Curtis for a touchdown and the Cowboys took a 17 to 13 lead and never looked back. Romo finished the day with two touchdown passes and as the team's second leading rusher. Owens led the Dallas receivers with five catches for 97 yards and Barber rushed for 89 yards on 14 carries.

Week three of the season saw the Dallas Cowboys facing the 2006 Super Bowl finalists, the Chicago Bears. The Cowboys would prove to be victorious again with a 34 to 10 lopsided win. The Bears appeared to have their problems with their quarterback throwing three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. The Cowboys offense was on target again as they scored the game's final 24 points on three touchdowns and a field goal on their first four possessions of the second half. Tony Romo threw for 329 yards and two touchdowns. The Cowboys defense also proved to be on their game holding the Bears to just ten points.

This weekend the Cowboys will take on the St Louis Rams who have started the 2007 season with three losses. Since the Rams moved from Anaheim, Calif., to St. Louis in 1994, the two teams have played each other only three times. In 2002 the Cowboys beat the Rams in St. Louis, and in 2005 and 2006 the Rams defeated the Cowboys at Texas Stadium. This Sunday the Dallas Cowboys look to change their run against the Rams at home as they vie for their fourth straight victory to open the 2007 season.

Cheerleaders and Soccer - the Myths Get Blown Away

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Cheerleaders are breathtakingly performing and dancing on the field and we never bother to get to know them. No one knows as to what really goes behind the scenes of a soccer cheerleader. Whenever soccer players are honored, these cheerleaders are also honored with gifts because they are part of the team. True, you do not expect them to play soccer but see how they bring success to the team and the game as well. They bring in the crowds, and blow away the tensions of the players by cheering them. Yes, the fans too loose their tension seeing these splendid performers in their glittering attire.

It is not easy at all to become a soccer cheerleader. Auditions are tough to say the least and thousands of girls get eliminated. Cheerleaders have to look good, must be energetic, and have a pleasing great personality as well. After being inducted into the squad, it takes hours of practice almost every day to get the soccer dancing routines well. Sometimes they have to dance in the freezing cold as well as in very hot climates all the time smiling. Besides they do not get paid much, only $20 or so per game. Some times even this is not paid when they have to show up at overseas performances for US troops, photo shoots and guest appearances.

Soccer cheerleaders are indeed beauties with brains. Cheerleaders have to be mature and clever so that they can answer the complicated questions of the media. Do remember, that they are an important aspect of the team's public image.

Certainly, soccer cheerleaders deserve a better reputation. In general, the soccer cheerleaders are good girls who do their best to perform. We must show our appreciation for these great performers. Cheerleaders contribute to the community in various charity events also and collect money for noble causes. It is time that we know them and support them. Their service to the game must not go unnoticed.

Soccer cheerleaders entered the game in the 1960s. To maintain and promote the image of Dallas Cowboys in the minds of the public, the team manager came up with a brilliant idea to bring on ladies as cheerleaders. Intricate dance routines and beautiful looks made the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders create history and the world turned and took notice of them.

Soccer cheerleaders were not just dancers on the field but also showed up off the field to boost the public image of the soccer teams. Be sure, these smiling dancing girls are actually contributors to the community as well as stylish entertainers in the field of sports.

Without them soccer game would loose its vivacity that it is known for. Soccer cheerleaders today have earned a firm place in the game and they are part of the team. They have separate audience for themselves. Let us not think of them as dumb girls after fame and money. They are in it to decide their career and by the way they promote so many social causes too.

Cheerleaders Costume - Supreme Fitness and Aspirations

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Their small uniforms are no deterrents to their spirit of endurance and fun. The temperature at the stands is enough to freeze a glass of water left alone for one hour. Cheerleaders are excellent people who take both heat and cold alike in their stride. Every body wonders whether these ladies feel comfortable but the radiant smile on their faces says it all. They soon start doing their dance combined with gymnastic movements and the crowd of fans goes in to raptures. Unmindful of the biting cold they swirl around the air their supremely fit bodies doing brilliant dance movements all the time.

Cheerleaders perform for the morale boosting of the players. To get rid of the tension from players as well as spectators mind, cheerleaders dance to the tune of music. Cheerleaders are an attraction for getting extra crowds.

Cheerleaders are also invited for church functions and parties and it shows their extensive recognition by society. The point of attraction in cheerleaders is their vivacious, multicolored and fashionable dresses.

It is now clear that these are no nonsense blondes out to steal the show for themselves. Cheerleaders are not a bunch of dumb girls smiling all the time. If you try dancing in this biting cold climate how long can you dance? Even if you do, can you manage that radiant smile all through your performance? Can you continuously cheer the fans by waving to them? For ordinary people these are unachievable feats but this is just a routine for the cheerleaders.

Cheerleaders are supremely trained in fitness and choreography and are trained to withstand heat and cold alike. They are taught how to move on with a fan crowd and how to keep them pleased all the time they are with them. Trainers train the girls for at lest two weeks; they have to run 1 mile in 10 minutes, perform forty sit-ups in sixty seconds and forty pushups in forty seconds. This is done before the start of every season. Only those who are in an extremely fit condition are selected in to the team.

The grueling life of cheerleaders also requires them to travel throughout the year to many venues. Cheerleading has come to be recognized as a special sports now with the punishing practice that these young ladies go through. The coach for the cheerleaders is no ordinary person. He is himself a gifted athlete and carries with him all certificates that a football coach must have with him.

Seeing what direction the crowd is going, the true cheer leader determines his or her course and follows it. They do what they believe is best for everyone involved. Often cheerleaders have to change opinion suddenly when in performance in order to make a true difference.

Cheerleaders boldly own responsibility for the decisions they make, ask for forgiveness for their mistakes, and in the true spirit of sports will share honor with others when something great is achieved.

Youth Football Coaching - Duties For the Team Mom

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Once you have your youth football coaching staff, including the serious parents who commit as assistant coach, you still will need a lot of help to make the season go as smooth as possible.

The team mom can be the most helpful of all parents. Make sure you have the full list of duties for the team mom. I find it best to let them know up front what they are volunteering for. The usual duties always include the following:

1. Typing and Passing out a roster list with all the players names, numbers, parents names and contact info
2. Emergency phone numbers lists
3. Organizing the homecoming of Rally night which may include assigning things for people to bring.
4. Help passing out uniforms
5. Collection of money and delivery of uniforms to local shirt shops to get the names printed on the back
6. Email updates to the parents
7. Make and distribute an assignment list for game day duties
8. Make and distribute a snack list. I'm funny about this and have pretty much gotten away from it. A lot of teams do a halftime and end of the game snack. I have eliminated both since I believe they are a distraction. An after game beverage like Gatorade is fine.
9. Plan and book the year end banquet. This will include collecting the money from each parent.

These are the main things I will have the Team Mom take care of.

I usually get some one to volunteer very early to be Team Mom. I think the earlier in your youth football year the better. You will find that most of the time the same mom volunteers year after year.

Photo Print Mania! Now, Anybody Can Order a Print, From Anywhere

The Internet is simply the greatest invention since sliced bread. Of course, if you ask my husband, he'll tell you it's the second greatest invention since beer.

Some women in my age group - think wannabe Real Housewives of Orange County - are a bit intimidated by what you can do online.

Oh, we're all comfortable enough going online and getting email, maybe make a hotel reservation or buy tickets, but past that and you may as well be asking us to remodel the kitchen. Check that. For many of us, remodeling the kitchen would be a snap, but navigating a confusing array of web pages sends us running from the computer.

We find our favorite sites, and then we stick with them. Getting us to change is tough. But once you have us, and as long as you don't lie, cheat or steal from us, we'll love you forever. Sort of like husbands, come to think of it.

One reason I really love the Internet is how easy it makes it to stay in touch with anybody. Until recently, that meant anybody with an email address. After all, my mom, who's in her 80s, would no more sit down in front of a PC than fly to Antarctica. To her, both are cold places best left to scientists.

Of course, we all know that PC's are a lot more useful than a trip to Antarctica. Our age group of women have experienced first hand how easy it makes it to stay connected with our children. I know a woman who's main contact with her son at college is his Facebook page. And that's OK. It beats the old days, when she probably wouldn't have heard from him at all.

But back to women, and older men, like my mom. I mentioned that the Internet now helps us stay in touch with ANYBODY. How can that be possible if mom or dad don't have an email address? Simple - easy photo printing on the Internet.

Just go to one of the many photo sharing sites online - type "easy photo sharing" or "easy photo printing" into your browser or search engine - and see what pops up. Pick the photo sharing site you're most comfortable with, and then load a few photos.

Then, have prints sent directly to mom, dad, a favorite aunt, your recluse brother who doesn't show his face to the world from the time the NFL starts in August until the Super Bowl, and then goes into mourning for six months.

It's fast and easy. If the photo sharing site doesn't let you do this in less than 10 minutes for just a few photos, then find another photo sharing service. There are fast and easy ones out there.

A fair warning, however. Once you start sharing photos like this, you'll get hooked. You'll start creating photo albums of your daughters high school graduation, your new kitchen, your pets ... you'll build online digital scrapbooks of your favorite photos ... you'll have one more way that you can keep your family and friends together, sharing, laughing, loving. And, no matter what my husband says, that makes the Internet a whole lot better than beer!

Dallas Cowboys Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductees

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League have a proud and successful history. Known as "America's Team", they are a favorite among football enthusiasts in the State of Texas, North America and globally, as well. The team is also very well known for its cheerleaders, the world famous Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Through the years the Dallas Cowboys organization has produced a number of talented players who have become legends of the game and have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Dallas Cowboys have had a great deal of success on the field since becoming an NFL franchise in 1960. Indeed, the Dallas Cowboys are one of the most successful teams in the history of the National Football League and hold numerous league records, thanks to their many great players, coaches and club officials. Additionally, they have been crowned Super Bowl Champions five times.

To date the Dallas Cowboys franchise has sixteen players inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame with ten of the inductees having played the majority of their career, if not all, with the Cowboys. The current Dallas Cowboys inductees are: Herb Adderley, Troy Aikman, Lance Alworth, Mike Ditka, Tony Dorsett, Forrest Gregg, Michael Irvin, Tom Landry, Bob Lilly, Tommy McDonald, Mel Renfro, Tex Schramm, Jackie Smith, Roger Staubach, Randy White, Rayfield White.

As can be imagined, only the best of the best make it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame after close scrutiny and careful consideration. The procedure for choosing inductees is meticulous and well defined. Currently the Pro Football Hall of Fame has a 40 member Board of Selectors that consists of one media representative from each pro football city, one representative of the Pro Football Writer's of America (PFWA) and seven at-large delegates. All appointments to the board can be terminated only by retirement or resignation insomuch as the member attends meetings regularly. The one exception is the PFWA representative who is appointed for a two-year term.

During the time of the Super Bowl the board meets to elect new members. They can choose between three and six inductees. Each candidate and his credentials are carefully reviewed and scrutinized. An eighty percent approval rate by the board must be reached before the candidate can be elected. A scale of negative votes is used to eliminate candidates.

When the board meets to make their selection they will receive the biographies of 17 final candidates. Of those 17 candidates two candidates will be from the pre-1982 era (chosen by the Senior Committee which is made up of members from the overall committee), ensuring that older players will be considered along with the younger players. The 15 other finalists are those that have survived a preliminary mail ballot screening by the Board.

There is fan involvement, too, as the original list of candidates will have been partly supplied by the fans. Fans can nominate any qualified person connected with pro football in any capacity by writing to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. One of the qualifiers is that a player must have played at least five seasons to be eligible for consideration. For a non-player, there is no mandatory retirement period, but a coach must be retired before he may be considered. Every nomination received by a fan is forwarded to the Board of Selectors.

Being enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame is no easy feat. With their successful past and promising future, there is no doubt that the Dallas Cowboys franchise will see many more inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Football - The Best Sport in America

When I was little I never liked football because my dad would always watch it and I never could get his attention. As I grew up my dad convinced me to give it a try and go out for the team. From that day on I grew to love football. It was tough at first learning everything, I mean when you don't know what is going on then you tend to lose interest.

When I first watched a football game on TV I was really confused on how they moved that yellow line so fast. It wasn't until I asked my dad, he laughed and explained to me that it wasn't really there. That was all I needed, all the other stuff just fell into place for me. Game after game it got more exciting for me. I couldn't get enough of it. There is so many things that make football so great. I mean for any one who likes to see someone get knocked the heck out almost every game then football is that. Did you know that an average football player who plays a game it is the same as being in three car accidents. So as far as thrill is concerned football has what it takes.

But the very best thing about football has got to be the cheerleaders. I mean anytime the game gets boring you can just look over at the cheerleaders and it reminds you that this is really great. To see girls like that most time you have to pay for it. That was just a joke. But really, how awesome are the cheerleaders?

Well, that is all I have to say about football being the best sport ever. I challenge anyone to give it a chance and not like it.

Football has a lot to offer. What I mean by that is it teaches kids about working as a team and can also teach leadership as well as discipline. Which nowadays is a tough lesson to teach. That in its self is the biggest reason why this sport is so great.

The Dallas Cowboys Quarterbacks Through the Years

The Dallas Cowboys are obviously one of the most popular franchises in the National Football League for a reason. The team established a tradition of winning under legendary head coach Tom Landry and that tradition survived the transition to Jimmy Johnson during the early 1990s. Through the years not only have the Cowboys teams been popular and fan favorites, the Cowboys quarterbacks have also received more than their fair share of attention as well. Let's take a look at the Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks through the years.

The 1960s

The franchise was born in 1960 as an NFL expansion team and at the starting quarterback position was veteran quarterback Eddie LeBaron. After a few years, backup quarterback "Dandy" Don Meredith emerged to become the regular starter. He was popular with the fans and would stay at the helm of the team until a strong armed youngster was able to get his chance at the end of the decade.

The 1970s

All through the 1970s, Roger Staubach was the face of the Dallas Cowboys and was a key reason the team became successful on the field. Staubach had a reputation as a good person of high quality to go along with his tremendous athletic ability. It was a sad day following the 1979 season when "Roger The Dodger" announced his retirement and the team turned its quarterbacking duties over to of all people... a punter.

The 1980s

Danny White had been the backup quarterback to Staubach for a number of years and during that time also served as the team's punter. This made the Cowboys a dangerous team when he emerged as the starter in 1981 because when it was fourth down, no one was ever sure if they were going to go for it or actually punt the ball. In the mid 1980s a quarterback controversy developed in Dallas when young Gary Hogeboom joined the team. This controversy didn't last long as Hogeboom eventually moved on to the Colts and the Cowboys drafted a new young quarterback who would get a shot at starting, Steve Pelleur. The end of the decade saw what some believe to be the unceremonious dumping of the legendary Tom Landry and the hiring of the brash Jimmy Johnson. Many other changes came to the team and a new starting quarterback was just one of them as rookie Troy Aikman would helm the squad to a 1-15 record in 1989.

The 1990s

Aikman would eventually lead a team featuring other star players including running back Emmitt Smith and wide receiver Michael Irvin to win three Super Bowl victories in four years. Many football experts have called this mid 1990s Dallas Cowboys teams one of the best teams in history. Aikman would remain at the helm through the rest of the decade and though they didn't return to the big game, they were always considered a team that others had to worry about.

The 2000s

Following one season in the new decade, Troy Aikman would call it a career too and fade into the memories of the past. For the first time in team history, there wasn't a clean transition when it came to the Cowboys starting quarterback after Troy Aikman's retirement. The Cowboys tried Quincy Carter, Anthony Wright, Ryan Leaf, Clint Stoerner, Chad Hutchinson, Vinny Testaverde, Drew Henson, and Drew Bledsoe at starting quarterbacks from 2001 through 2006 before finding Tony Romo who would be their next quarterback to start consistently.

Because the Dallas Cowboys are one of the most popular teams in the history of the NFL, the starting quarterback for the team has also consistently been one of the more popular players. Playing quarterback for the Cowboys is similar to playing shortstop for the New York Yankees or center for the Los Angeles Lakers, most people know exactly who the person playing that position is even if they aren't a big sports fan themselves. Watching the evolution of the quarterbacks of the Dallas Cowboys will continue to fascinating as the years go by, without a doubt there will be more great ones to come.
