Lilly, who had retired after 14 year career in the NFL in July 1975, presented his Cowboy uniform once again and graciously accepted the honor with an array of other gifts. As Ring of Honor inductee is a coveted award that deserves only the best, just like its creator Tex Schramm had assigned was presented. Schramm himself was selected to the Ring of Honor, posthumously, in October 2003 a few months after his death. An unprecedented three former Cowboys All-Stars were also included in the Ring of Honor in September 2005.
