Basketball Uniforms

A basketball uniform lets the players identify their team mates. This is the purpose of a uniform. The people in the stands can tell which team is which by the different colors of the clothes the players are wearing. The wearing of a basketball uniform makes the player feel like part of the the team. It also brings the players as a whole to be seen as one.

You should be proud to be wearing your teams basketball uniform. What does a basketball uniform consist of? A shirt that it a tank top or known to sports fans as a basketball jersey, matching shorts, socks and sneakers. Today's players wear lightweight uniforms that allow the body to breath. This allows players to perform better since they do not get overheated as quickly.

If they had heavy uniforms on, the performance of the player would most certainly suffer. All the teams have their very own design on the basketball uniform. Now that you can tell which team they are on, the next thing is to see what player is who. This is done by putting a different number on each players uniform and adding their name to the back of it to. The team you play for may change the uniform from one year to the next. This will take away some of the boredom with the same old thing all the time. There are usually two different color basketball uniforms per team.

The home team will wear a different color than the visiting team. One will wear a mostly white one while the other team will wear a more colored one. Basketball players will sweat a whole lot. So there attire will have to be comfortable for them as they are sweating. The clothing will have to breath and take the sweat away from their body. This will also have a cooling effect on the player. Most uniforms are made from a synthetic material. The look of the clothing can have sleeves or be sleeveless. It can have a round neck or a v shaped neck. Their shirts can be solid fabric or part mesh. The mesh allows airflow to keep the player cooler.

The shorts are the shorts. They are kept up by the use of a drawstring, elastic or even Velcro The choices for a basketball uniform are endless. From the style of the shirts to the design to the coloring

The Dallas Cowboys Schedule

NFL cheerleaders

The Dallas Cowboys schedule, like the schedules of all of the other NFL teams, always includes regular games against the division rivals. This leads to some pretty intense rivalries being developed over many years of playing against the same team.

In the case of Dallas, the rivalry with the Washington Redskins has gone on to be regarded as one of the legendary rivalries in the history of all sports. This is not surprising, as the problems all started long before any football was actually played. Dallas had applied to the NFL for an expansion franchise, and this had been opposed by Washington, who at the time were the only southern team in the NFL.

Up with the Dallas Cowboys, down with the Redskins!

This totally selfish and unjustified protest led to the prospective owners buying the rights to the Washington Redskins famous song "Hail To The Redskins", and threatening to prevent the Redskins from playing the song during their home games. This led to the Redskins' owner, George Preston Marshall, backing down, and the Dallas franchise was formed.

Since then, there have been many moments of high competition and intense rivalry between two highly successful franchises. Possibly the closest moment of all came in 1973, when the two combatants met in the Monday Night Football game for the first time. Washington safety Ken Houston brought Dallas runner Walt Garrison down on the 1 yard line, right as time ran out. Had Garrison scored, the Cowboys could have tied the game with the point after. There was no overtime back in 1973.

This is far from the only intense rivalry in the Dallas Cowboys schedule. The Philadelphia Eagles are another team in the same division with whom the Cowboys have a long established and intense rivalry. If we go back to 1974, the Cowboys were on a record of eight consecutive post season appearances, before Philadelphia hosted them on September 23rd. Philadelphia pulled off a shock win, thanks to a 97 yard fumble return for a touchdown, and a 45 yard field goal, kicked right at the end of the game.
The Cowboys supremacy in the NFC of the late 70s was apparently broken when Philadelphia were able to beat them in the 1980 Championship Game, by 20-7.

Th rivalry was to get even worse. In 1989, the Cowboys' home game held on Thanksgiving was one of the ugliest in NFL history. The fighting that had broken out between the teams was getting worse, before kicker Luis Zendejas was taken out of the game suffering from concussion. Eagles' coach Buddy Ryan was later accused of issuing bounties on star quarterback Troy Aikman, as well as kicker Zendejas. This rivalry continues to be one of the nastiest in the NFL, and the Eagles games are two of the hardest fought in the Dallas Cowboys Schedule.

Cheerleading in Professional Basketball - An Overview

NFL cheerleaders

Cheerleading in professional basketball leagues such as the NBA is very similar to the cheerleading you find in professional football leagues. The squads are typically made up of dance teams or cheerleading squads and the focus is the support of the team they are cheering for. The cheerleading squads of professional basketball teams, like those of professional football teams, spend a great deal of time in the public relations arena. The largest part of their time is spent promoting the basketball team itself and in being involved in the fund raising efforts by the team for various agencies.

Cheerleading is thought to have begun in the 1800's and was primarily popular in the high school and college scenes until around 1960 when it made its debut into the professional sports arena with the Baltimore Colts claiming the right as being the first NFL team to have a cheer squad. The Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League, however are credited for making the cheerleading squads what they are today and it gained such popularity that professional basketball teams got in on it as well.

It is believed that the first NBA cheerleading squad appeared with the Indiana Pacers in the 1972-1973 season and the trend grew from there.

Just like in the NFL, the cheerleaders often go on to do other things and they aren't "airheads" as the stereotype would have them to be. In fact, many have gone on to become quite famous in their own right. One example is Paula Abdul. She began her long career as a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers and then went on to become a well-known recording artist and more recently as one of the judges on the world renowned American Idol TV show. It was recently confirmed that she will go on to star in Simon Cowell's new show "X-Factor" scheduled to debut in the US in the summer and fall months when American Idol is not on.

She's not the only one however that went on to even greater fame. Next we find that Bonnie Jill-Laflin was not only a cheerleader for the NBA's Golden State Warriors, but she was also on the Dallas Cowboys cheerleading squad for a period of time. She went further to make guest appearances on shows like Ally McBeal and Baywatch among other things before most recently settling in to her new job as a scout for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Eve Torres, a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Clippers is currently a WWE diva on the RAW brand. She herself is a former pro wrestler and she also works as a model and an actress.

It's not so difficult to become a cheerleader for a professional basketball team or to get on one of the dance teams. The most important things that they look for are women that are physically fit and in great shape. The interested candidate should also be able to dance and learn new dances and moves as directed by the team's choreographer. There's a lot of hard work involved and while the pay isn't all that great many of the cheerleaders use this to catapult their careers into other areas.

Top 10 Reasons Why I Love Football

College? NFL? Arena? Flag? Fantasy?

It's Tuesday afternoon; do you find yourself longing for the weekend? Not because the idea of having two days off from the daily grind perks your interest, but because your living room television is bombarded by "College Game Day", the SEC Saturday night Showdown, and of course Sunday NFL Madness. Here are the little things that get me through the week and the top 10 reasons why I LOVE football:

1) I LOVE Fall weather, which in turn means Football Season.

Reason: I can curl up on my sofa wearing my old college sweatshirt, slide the screen door open, and feel the chill in the air. Whether you live in Florida or Minnesota, you have to admit the change in the weather puts you in the mood!

2) I LOVE tailgating.

Reason: Food, drinks, friends, family, football, and more. What more could you ask for? Not convincing enough? How about loud music, horseshoes, silly pictures with friends and did I mention food, drinks, friends and family?!

3) I LOVE pep rallies.

Reason: Reminiscent of high school where the band plays, the cheerleaders cheer, and the bonfire burns into the wee hours of Friday nights.

4) I LOVE decking out in my teams colors on game.

Reason: Whether it's my new Jay Cutler Denver Broncos jersey or that navy blue face paint I just bought, nothing is more fun the dressing in the spirit of football.

5) I LOVE football food.

Reason: Bratwursts, Burgers, Hot Dogs, Chips, Dips (Queso!) ---Need I say more?

6) I LOVE the action.

Reason: Contact sports are the best. Watching superhuman men run, smash and juke their opponents is thrilling at the very least.

7) I LOVE the fans.

Reason: 80,000+ screaming fans of all different backgrounds rooting for their beloved team makes for a pretty entertaining afternoon.

8) I LOVE my family.

Reason: Obviously among other reason, my family and I share a love for football which means family gatherings of watching our favorite teams during football season.

9) I LOVE being active.

Reason: Playing flag football is much more enjoyable than being stuck inside a stuffy gym!

10) I LOVE the players.

Reason: The men who play the game of football are athletes; pure speed, strength and stamina.

Football is the greatest sport of all time and has endured the test of time, dating back to the ancient Greece. If you have never attended a college football game, you need to. If you've never seen a high school football game on a Friday night, you need to. If you find yourself wondering what to do on any given Saturday or Sunday between the months of August and February, turn on the tv....a game is bound to be on. What's all the hype about Fantasy Football?? Join a group and see for yourself! Need an excuse to eat high fatty foods and drink a beer? Football is your excuse!! Now what are you waiting for? Go enjoy some FOOTBALL!

The Latest Indianapolis Colts Jerseys

NFL cheerleaders

The Indianapolis Colts play in the South Division of the AFC. Originally the team was based out of Baltimore and won a number of NFL Championships, including the fifth Super bowl. It was in 1984 that the complete club and team shifted to Indianapolis. If you are a devoted follower then you will want to be sure that you wear the latest Indianapolis Colts jerseys on match days.

The history of the club since the move to Indianapolis has been chequered. Their finest hour was definitely the victory in the Super Bowl against the Chicago Bears in 2006. This is a game that is still talked about excitedly by the club's die hard fans. Between 1984 and 1997 the Indianapolis colts won ninety out of two hundred and twenty eight games, five of which were playoffs. The Colts have recorded a few of the NFLs firsts, for example they were the first ever team to win at least twelve games in six consecutive seasons.

Another interesting fact is that the Colts hold the claim to fame for being the first team to defeat all the other NFL teams. Also they were the first club to feature cheerleaders as well as a marching band! The events off the pitch have also had a dramatic impact on the clubs standing. Over the decades there have been seasons of terrible results, for example in 1991; and sadly even the murder of a player Shane Curry in 1992. The disputes over location and ownership have also had a massive bearing on the club's performances and status.

Unusually, the Indianapolis colt's logo and colors have not changed since the team's inception back in 1953. Their white and blue colors have stayed consistent. The latest kit incorporates a blue jersey with white stripes on the shoulders or the alternative uniform of a white jersey with blue stripes. The pants have changed in design over the decades, today they are white with blue stripes down the side though previously they wore grey pants.

In 1995 the team wore blue pants for a few games but then this was not so popular with the fans so the switch was made back to the blue color. The main difference that has been made to the jerseys over the years is slight modifications to the stripes and accents.

When choosing an Indianapolis Colts jersey you should think about which players name you want to have splashed across the back. A popular choice is Peytin Manning who successfully broke the club's long standing record for touchdown passes.

To be successful in the NFL today takes more than just good players. It is no surprise to discover that it is the most supported clubs that have reached the greatest number of super bowl finals.

With the team having been strengthened over the last twelve months with a selection of talented young players maybe this is the time when the Colts can once again lift the Super Bowl. If they do then their jerseys will become a more common sight around the country.

Can I Make a Living Being a Cheerleader

NFL cheerleaders

A friend sent me an email recently asking me if they could make a living being a cheerleader, which forced me to do some research. What I found was that if you want to become a cheerleader for say, a NFL team, it is not wise to give up your day job. Bad news for those interested, sorry, however it is impossible to maintain a decent life being a cheerleader.

During my research I discovered that most cheerleaders earn about $50 per hour, per game. That works out to between $400 to $500 per game, as cheerleaders are usually asked to work between 8 to 10 hours per game. You may have between 1 and 2 home games per month, so you would earn between $400 - $1000 per month for a couple months. This is obviously far from what anyone would consider to be a steady well paying job, in fact, some professional teams require cheer leading applicants to have a full time job before the team would even consider the job application.

The good thing about being a cheerleader is that it can be a spring board for dancing gigs, modeling and other forms of entertainment. For those who are lucky or good enough to get other gigs, cheer leading can be a short term career which can fetch you between $2000 and $4000 per month. However, cheer leading is a very unforgiving profession, as how well you do in most cases has more to do with how good you look and not how well you dance.

It is not easy to get in the profession, as there has been an increase in the amount of cheer leading job applications to professional teams over the years. The competition for these jobs is getting more intense and as such, the cheerleaders have treated their profession like a science and try to pull out all the stops to be prepared for their tryouts and interviews.

What do I need to do to be a professional cheerleader?

All teams with cheerleaders have scheduled yearly auditions. These auditions are usually scheduled weeks in advance, so you should keep in contact with the cheer leading squad you are interested in joining. Make sure that you submit your application before the stated deadlines and that you complete all your preparation before the audition.

Most professional cheer leading squads have a particular routine that is modified on a weekly basis. You should watch their dance routines and practice this daily. If the team has clinics, then get involved, as this will help you to learn their routines even better and gain a relationship with the people who are already on the squad.

You must have excellent dancing skills. Most cheer leading squads require that their dancers can make up things on the fly, do splits and high kicks, be able to dance to various kinds of music and be able to smile and be pleasant while doing their routines. Get to know the type of music the squad dances to, and practice their dance routines daily. You should also make up your own routines, so that you can add your personal touch.

Get an idea of the sort of look the cheer leading squad requires. Some squads requires that cheerleaders be at a certain height or weight. You should keep your weight down and look and be physically fit for obvious reasons. There should be no noticeable blemishes on your skin and you should ensure that your hair is done similar to the members on the squad you are interested in. Most squads go for longer hair, but their are exceptions to that rule, so keep an eye out for the squad's particular style. The clothes you wear is important. Again, try to get an idea of how the cheerleaders on the squad dress and follow them. Makeup is also very important for a cheerleader. Makeup should keep the audience focused on the cheerleaders' eyes. Make sure you that you use foundations that match your skin, use liquid eyeliners, making sure it matches the colors of the team you want to represent, use eye shadow (using different hues and glitters) and use strong colors on your lips ensuring that their is a gloss over it. Do not use too much glitters.

Just like any other job, you will have to do a formal interview. Do not take the interview for granted. These squads requires professionalism, so look professional and answer the questions asked by the interviewer professionally. Prepare for the interview in the same manner you would prepare for any other. Be prepared to answer questions about why you want to be in the profession and a part of their squad. Be prepared to tell them why choosing you would be their best option and how your experience will help them. Be early for your interview and ensure that the interviewer understands how serious you are about getting the job.
