Digital Camera Scene Modes - The 5 Modes You'll Use the Most

Technology is a beautiful thing. Every year hundreds of new or enhanced products are produced. Digital camera manufacturers come out with new models a couple times a year, each company trying to outdo the other. They've gone crazy with the variety of scene modes that are being added to new cameras.

Digital camera scene modes are a simple way for you to "tell" the camera what type of picture you are taking. The camera will then optimize the settings for that particular shot. Some modes change how colors are recorded, others change whether or not the flash fires. The trend now is to add special effects and things that you'll probably never use.

How often will you use a Starburst effect? Do you take a lot of photos that require a Pastel Color effect? Even the semi-popular Sepia mode is not needed, as far as I'm concerned. One click in your editing software and you've got Sepia.

If you're like most people, you'll only use a few of the scene modes on your camera. Here's details on the 5 modes you're most likely to use.

Portrait Mode

Portrait mode is for taking people pictures. Whether it's a single person or a group of people, you should use the Portrait mode. Your digital camera will select an appropriate shutter speed and aperture combination to capture your subject and blur the background. The idea here is to make the background less distracting.

Newer digital cameras incorporate autofocus technology that actually scans the picture looking for faces. It's usually called Face Priority or Face Detection. It especially helps when your subject is not dead center in the picture or when you have a group of people. Nikon, Fuji, Sony and others manufacturers are putting this technology in many cameras.

Check your owners manual to see if your digital camera uses this technology and whether it's automatic or you have to enable it manually.

Landscape Mode

Landscape mode should be your choice for all of those breathtaking views you want to shoot. Scenic vistas of the beach, the mountains, a field of flowers or a city skyline are all prime uses for Landscape mode. Your digital camera selects an exposure combination to maximize what's in focus from front to back.

Although it's not absolutely necessary, using a tripod or some other sort of support will help. Walk around a bit to find the best vantage point. Sometimes a small shift to the left or right (or up or down) will make the difference between a snapshot and a photograph.

Sports Mode

Whether it's kids soccer or baseball, or an NFL game, Sports mode is designed to help you stop the action. Your digital camera will set the shutter speed as high as possible for the lighting conditions in order to stop action. Sports mode also puts your camera in Continuous shooting mode (hold the button down and shoot 3-4 pictures in a row) and forces the flash off. If you can, setting the ISO to 400 or 800 will also help. A few cameras do this for you.

You'll want to get as close as you can for great Sports and action pictures. First get physically close, right on the sidelines if possible. Move up and down the field with the action. (Not so easy at hockey games.) Then use your zoom lens to get the shot you want. Take some wide shots to show all the action, along with tight shots of one or two players. This will help tell the story much better.

Be sure to pay attention to what's going on in the game. You may have to jump out of the way of the players!

Beach/Snow Mode

Having been a longtime resident of Florida, and as a current resident of Colorado, I can attest to the real benefit of the Beach/Snow scene mode. Both film and digital camera light meters are calibrated to a medium tone. Overly bright or dark scenes are not recorded properly. Beach/Snow scene mode is for all those bright scenes.

Big open areas of water on a sunny day. Long stretches of white sandy beaches. Snow covered mountains on your next ski vacation. These are all perfect times to use Beach/Snow mode. You are telling the camera that your subject matter is quite bright and it will compensate accordingly. Instead of muddy grey snow it will be recorded bright and white as it should be.

Sunrise/Sunset Mode

While most Scene modes change the aperture or shutter speed used, Sunrise/Sunset mode changes how the colors of the scene are recorded. The goal is to record the beautiful quality of light at these times of day.

Sunrise and sunset are times when the world is bathed in beautiful warm light. You'll hear photographers refer to this as Golden Light or the Golden Hours. By using these settings instead of Auto mode you'll capture that beautiful light and the dramatic colors. Try it for yourself next time you photograph a sunset and you'll see the difference.

The next time you read your manual (You do know where it is, right?) check out all the scene modes your digital camera has. Perhaps there are a few that you would find useful for your style of shooting. Try them out, along with the 5 listed here, to improve the pictures you take.

CATHERINE BACH: HOT STUFF!

[Please read] You better believe it! Check out "Daisy Duke" and the NFL Rams Cheerleaders doing aerobics for octogenarian comedian George Burns and YOU. Clips in this video derive from the George Burns TV Special "How to Live to be 100" (1984). Catherine was George's first credited guest star on the show. That same year, Miss Bach had made a key appearance in the movie CANNONBALL RUN II. as Marcie, Lamborghini babe. In the finest tradition of Al Capp's Dogpatch "Daisy Mae Yokum" in her medium (comic strips), Catherine's Hazzard County "Daisy Duke" lent her sexy looks and friendly ways to nearly every television episode of the action-comedy series THE DUKES OF HAZZARD (1979-1985) as well as two made-for-TV reunion movies in 1997 and 2000, respectively. Typically clad in her "Daisy Dukes"—the most satisfyingly short shorts (denim)—she helped her cousins "Bo" (John Schneider) and "Luke" (Tom Wopat) foil corrupt "Boss Hogg" time and time again. A sensational beauty and unforgettable screen presence, CB indelibly defined her "Daisy" role and then broke the mold. (In other words: WHO is Jessica Simpson?) Miss Bach's appeal is unsurprisingly "all-country;" but, as this footage proves, she could light up the screen in any context calling for "electricity." She remains one of my all-time favorite female entertainers. Hence, this video upload—both as an expression of sincere personal enthusiasm as well a vehicle to acquaint Internet audiences with some of her work outside of DUKES ...

Who Says You Can't Use an SLR Camera?

Certainly not me. Did I ever tell you the story, about the guy that taught his dog how to take pictures using his brand new digital SLR camera? No, well we'll save that story for another day. My point being, that taking great pictures with an SLR camera is not nearly as tough as it used to be. In fact with a little patience and persistence, you could be taking great SLR pictures within a day. That's not to suggest that an expensive camera will automatically take great pictures, it's just a comment on the advanced state of the usability of digital cameras these days.

That is, digital SLR cameras have come a long way in the last few years to make themselves more accessible to the average photographer. No longer do you have to be a photographer for National Geographic, or one of those guys on the NFL sidelines with lenses longer than my arm to take great pictures. Anyone can really do it. SLRs have terrific auto settings controlled by the latest digital camera software, that allow you to take pictures on day one, while getting used to your new camera. Down the road, you will have the option to do more sophisticated things with the camera.

Just using an SLR does give you the opportunity to take better pictures than you ever taken before. For instance, let me ask you the following. How many times have you missed a great shot, because your camera fired late, or refused to fire at all as you pressed down the shutter button? I know it's happened to me plenty of times. The reason is, that the electronics that allowing your cameras image sensor to capture your picture are just too slow. It's not your camera in particular, all compact digital cameras have that problem. SLR cameras however, use a mechanical shutter that responds instantly. And and can even take rapid fire pictures over the course of a few seconds.

This is just one of the advantages, that makes digital SLR cameras a better value for your dollar today.

The Top 7 Keys to Buying Lottery Software

You like to play the lottery. It's fun. It's exciting. And you enjoy studying the past winning numbers. You're convinced there are trends and patterns in all that data that would give you an advantage, but they're elusive and seem to be just out of your reach. You know that all major businesses, industries and governments use computer software to make forecasts and predictions about tomorrow. So, why not you? You've decided to buy some lottery software and create a little luck for yourself.

Well, good luck. You're about to enter a minefield filled with hype-masters and hucksters, with dazzle and glitz, with outrageous claims and expectations. Welcome to the world of Lottery Software.

I'm not trying to dissuade you; I'm trying to alert you to what's in store. There actually are about 4 or 5 descent products out there, but which are which. Well, perhaps this checklist will help you with your quest.

Hype is the Standard

This shouldn't surprise you. We're surrounded and inundated with advertisements continuously throughout the day. The Internet is more like a seething cauldron than a market place. So, you're going to find page after page of lottery software companies hawking their wares. Here's what to look out for.

If they promise you that 'YOU Will WIN the Lottery in 1 Week, GUARANTEED!' you should be a bit skeptical. You won't win the lottery and, as far as that guarantee is concerned, you'll never see your money again. These charlatans are here today, gone tomorrow. They can form a new company and set up an internet site in a day. They scam as much money as they can until they feel some heat and, poof, they're gone. The next day they're open for business again under a new name. They're ghosts on steroids.

Experience and Confidence are Brothers

If a company has been in business a long time you learn 3 things:

1. They must believe in their product.

2. They have sustained a level of sales over the years to remain profitable.

3. They have been able to maintain a good reputation in the marketplace.

And, it is these facts that instill Confidence in the consumer.

Testimonials Aren't Necessarily Hype

Some would say that Testimonials have been over used and, besides, who believes that stuff anyway? The people probably don't even exist. They were made up just like the Testimonial. Unfortunately, the skeptics have a point. Why should you give any credence to Testimonials? Why? Because, you can learn much more by reading them than you can by not.

If a huckster made them up, his only motive was to get you to buy. If customers wrote them, they are thanking the vendor. Hucksters speak from avarice but satisfied customers speak from the heart. The next time you read some testimonials, keep this in mind and you might just learn more that you expected.

Help I Need Somebody

Boy, ain't that the truth. Ever need some help with some software and, when you click on Help, all you get is &$%^@#? Nada. Nothing. Ever read the Help screen and it just made you mad? Oh, here's one. Ever click on Help only to have it tell you to look in the Manual? These are all written by people who could care less if you get any help. They only care about getting it done quickly so they can take your money faster. Contrast that with the attitude of a company that actually has a good product that they are proud of.

Oh, here's another. Every click on Help and discover it was written by a person who knows the product backwards and forwards and, so, he wrote the help screen for someone who knows the product backwards and forwards? Microsoft is notorious for this and, rightly so, it has become the brunt of an unending torrent of internet jokes.

So, do a little investigation into the Help screens the product provides. It might save some of your precious household items from being broken.

Manual Labor Should Be Rewarding

Software generally is notorious for having schlock product manuals but the problem is even worse with Lottery Software. This is due, in no small part, to the unsavory characters that market on the fringe of our business. It particularly frustrates me because, undeservedly, some of that tarnish rubs off on the white hat guys in our business.

Here's a pet peeve of mine that I'm sure many of you share. The manual explains exactly how each part of the software works, but never tells you how, when or where to use it. What are you supposed to do; spend the next two years learning how to use the software by trial and error? You finally learn how to use it about the time the next version hits the market. So, find out what you can about their software operations manual before you purchase.

A Picture May Be Worth a Thousand Words - But a Video Is Worth the Whole Book

With all the technology available to companies today, there is no excuse for not providing the customer with Training or Tutorial Videos. Five minutes watching a training video can save hours of frustration and turn an angry customer into raving cheerleader. So, find out if the company provides training on their product?

What Are They Selling On Their Website?

Today, that's a good question. On many websites it is very difficult to determine exactly what they are trying to sell. You went there to buy Lottery Software and you're inundated with audio messages, pop-up advertisements and video pitches for things you don't want and had no intention of buying. You're surrounded, top, bottom, left and right, with ads selling everything from 'The Original Cave Etchings of the Dingbat Tribe of South of Nowhere' to 'Uncle Charley's Homemade Itch Cream'. If the company can't make up its mind who it is, you probably shouldn't reward their confusion.

Lotto Blog

Does the company love what it does? Does it have a passion for lottery software? Nothing demonstrates a company's commitment to its product more than a Blog. Why, you ask? Because a Blog is a lot of hard work. Making a Blog post every day is a major commitment by the company to support its customer base and engage the serious lottery playing community in discussions about their favorite topic.

Now, some vendors have blogs that they created for the sole purpose of being able to say 'We have a blog'. Maybe they make a post once a month if they remember. These are faux lottery enthusiasts. They have no love for the topic itself other than to create a revenue stream.

Beyond the Manual and the Help files, a Lotto Blog is an excellent place to learn more about your software, to learn new lottery strategies and to ask those burning questions you have. Nothing says a company is for real than a real Lotto Blog.

I hope these tips help you in your quest for some serious lottery software and, hopefully, save you some wasted time and money.

Good luck and I hope YOU Win the Big One.

Watch Football Programmes on TV

Image : http://www.flickr.com

With the growth of the television media in recent years, it is easier than ever to check on the popular sporting games with local channels, cable, dish or even the internet. True sporting (and by sporting I mean football) fans will not only be interested in the game play, but the players, their statistics, health and projected scoring and game models through their careers; the trainers with their training and game play techniques, the managers and yes, even the cheerleaders. The most interesting way to keep an eye on all of these is via good football programmes on TV, the internet and radio.

Where to search for updates:

Team websites:
Commence with the website of your favourite football team. They love publicity and will declare ( commonly on the front page) all media appearances that managers and team members are scheduled to have well in advance of the appointments. This is specially instrumental if you want to make it to appearances on call-in radio programmes or live appearances and autograph signings which themselves are pretty much guaranteed to end up on a programme themselves. This only works for professional teams and you should be mindful that good programme updates will decrease during the off season when appearances are more geared toward endorsements etc. rather than actual game play.

Before the game:
Before each game, stations will have their own pregame programmes to allow viewers catch up on what they may have missed with their teams. These are enlightening as you get the most recent info on who will game favourites, team and player histories and trends for the season, projections and expected performance in that particular game. The format is commonly similar across the board consisting of a panel of about 3 5 people from a assortment of disciplines including sports news casters, retired players and even the occasional fan.

View cable and local network web pages (for example you can check ESPN, FOX, CBS, ABC, NBC) that will show game converge to get times for team games). Pre games shows will start anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour in advance and will run right up until the teams are entering the field.

Post game:
It s not through once the game is. If you neglected the pre game show, there is invariably the post game show. These tend to recap the plays that took place, referee calls, coaching schemes and the overall performance of the players.

On the internet:
The World Wide Web is an brilliant source to find football programmes. Any fan can start their own video blog and commentate just like the pros do about performance and game play. Unfortunately, not many fans actually know as much as the pros do and the information you hear from these, though entertaining, in all probability should not be quoted unless it can be verified. Many rumours of player trades, team sales, draft picks and even accidental injuries started because of fan media websites. Outside of actual game play, fan sites can get very face-to-face with their commentary, going into personal lives of the teams. If that s not an aspect you are interested in when looking for football programmes then its best to stick to official programming sources.

Finding the Perfect Sponsor in MLM

So you have made the decision to jump into Network Marketing. The next step after choosing the company is finding your sponsor. Why is this an important topic? Simply because your sponsor can be the most important asset you have in building your MLM business. Lets explore the role of a sponsor, how they impact your business, and why finding the right one is so important!

1.)Business coach: As a sponsor, one of my primary roles is to be a business coach for my team. A good sponsor keeps information flowing to my down-line. Whether it be about new products, new recruiting tools, company events,or corporate updates, I need to always be passing this information forward. Being a sponsor does not mean I know everything, I just know where to find the answers and how to get them to the most people in the most efficient way. My job as a sponsor is to be available as a resource to my team in all areas of business building. I feel that researching and sharing information on business building of all types, not just MLM can add value. The primary focus is of course building your MLM business, but I have found valuable ideas in all areas of business that have had a positive impact on my business.

2.)Personal development coach: As your sponsor my other important role is this. To help you become the best you possible. The way to success in Network Marketing is to build a team. This does not mean simply signing up the most people that you can and then hoping for the best. I believe that by helping my team grow and develop as people, the rewards will be great. By helping you to succeed only then can I succeed. I believe that the best sponsor is there to be a friend, mentor and cheerleader when you need one. But also, a good sponsor knows when it is time to stop holding your hand and give you a shove out of your comfort zone. I need to teach you to become better than you are now.

We all have come into this business looking for success. No matter what business you are in, having the right person to guide you along the path makes the journey easier. When you start your search for a sponsor, keep in mind a few last tips. This is someone you choose to do business with. They are your business partner NOT your boss. We are all in this together. Interview your potential sponsor, find out if you are comfortable with them. Do you share the same values, work ethic, world view? Are you comfortable with this person? Do they inspire you to do better? Are they someone you'd enjoy spending time with? If you answer NO to these questions, keep looking!! You will find the right person and the right company if you are patient and do your homework.

If you give a man a fish he eats for a day, if you teach a man to fish he eats for a lifetime!

The Base 5-3 Defensive Set For Pop Warner Football

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The 5-3 defense is one of the most popular schemes you will see at the youth football level. It is especially effective versus a run heavy offensive team and most teams run more than they pass in youth football.

What is the introductory player responsibilities of the 5-3 defensive scheme? This article will answer this question in great detail..

First and foremost, the base defensive package needs to be installed by the coaching staff. Every player who lines up anywhere on defense must have a complete understanding of all the responsibilities of every position in the base set. If you want to play defense for my team, you will learn this area early on. You will not be playing defense for our team if you do not understand two very simple concepts. Knowing where to line up and what to do are the two mandatory requirements a player must have to play on our defense. Knowing where to line up is the first step and can usually be taught, to the players, from the information we get from our scouting report. Just covering the scouting report is not good enough since many teams may try to trick you with a different formation than they normally run, so every player needs to know how to line up on many different formations. Everything from the spread to an unbalanced line needs to be taught to the entire defense to assure no surprises on game day.

The second phase is a complete understanding of the responsibilities of all defensive positions. The players needs to know who is responsible for gap containment, outside containment or zone coverages. The entire defensive team benefits when everyone is aware of everyone else's responsibilities. It is easy to pinpoint where the defense is "leaking" and we can correct the problem.

In the base 5-3 defensive scheme we have eight primary run stop defenders. We use five defensive linemen which consist of two defensive ends, two defensive tackles and a nose guard. Three to five yards behind the defensive line we have our three linebackers with the middle linebacker lined up over the nose guard and the two outside linebackers lined up behind the defensive ends. There are three defensive backs with the safety lined up 8-10 yards behind the middle linebacker and the two defensive backs lined up 7-10 yards outside the outside linebackers. The crucial positions in this defensive set are the Nose guard, Linebackers and the Defensive Tackles. In our pee wee football coaching program, the Nose guard is responsible for the A gap. The middle Linebacker must cover the backside A gap as well as the B gap on both sides. Each defensive guard or tackle has either C gap coverage or the backside B gap. The balance of the defense covers the rest of the gaps down the line. The three defensive backs will drop into three deep zone pass coverage and the outside linebackers have outside run containment responsibility.

In conclusion, the 5-3 is a great basic defense to run at the pee wee level since it is designed to stop the run and most youth football teams cannot pass and must try to run the ball.

Avoid MLM Failure

To succeed in network marketing it takes consistent, hard work. Anyone who is prepared to do this will succeed. The reason why most do not is because they don't approach the business realistically. It is not enough to believe in network marketing. It's not enough to feel that you can succeed in it. Beliefs and feelings need to be strong enough to sustain us during those hard times. Which will come. Everyone goes through the tough times. Your top distributor suddenly decides to join another company. and takes with him half his downline. Your customers are not ordering as much. Your company has run out of a new product and your customers are canceling their orders. Anything could happen.

The fact is that we can only get through those tough times if we have a real big WHY. Why are we doing the business? What is it we hope to accomplish? What are our dreams? In a word, WHY do you want to be successful? Is it to have more free time so you can spend it with your family? Is it to get your children through university? Is it so you can be your own boss? Why??? Before you even join your company, write down why and what you want from network marketing.

Once the reason is crystal clear in your head, you are unlikely to get discouraged when the going gets tough. Whenever you feel dejected or disappointed, just read the notes you have written to remind yourself why you're doing the business. Our why is like a cheerleader encouraging us to keep the faith. It keep us sane, focused and determined.

Manna-Tech, Incorporated Business Review! Is It for You?

Manna-tech, Incorporated is yet another health and wellness network marketing company that is capitalizing on the increased demand for nutritional products in the American market. The company was founded in 1994 and is well known for the Ambratose supplement which provides essential glyconutrients that are often missing in food. Apart from this, Manna-tech also offers vitamin and mineral supplements, weight loss and fitness products such as protein shakes and some products that are meant solely for athletes.

As a retail consumer, you can become a Manna-tech member with just $10 but if you order a product at the time of sign up, you will not have to pay the $10 fee. Members get a 5% discount on the retail price and if you choose to participate in the automatic ordering program, you can get an additional 10% off. If even you don't want to pursue this as an income opportunity, you can still make some savings on the product prices by becoming a member. In addition to this, you might also have to look for a sponsor who can sign you up with the compensation plan. however, there are not much details available about the exact plan, the number of levels etc.

Although Manna-tech products are no different than a number of those available in the market, they have had very positive reviews from organizations like the Open Nutraceutics Journal. The journal mentions that the OsoLean powder manufactured by Manna-tech was particularly effective when used by overweight and obese patients. The powder helped in diet suppression and also retained lean muscle mass. The products are created by top scientists and researchers using the highest quality ingredients. This study easily proves the success of Manna-tech products.

Like any other network marketing company, Manna-tech suggests that a sales representative should start by selling products to his or her warm market but the technique of running after friends and family does not work in the 21st century. Instead, you must get creative in building your business. You must develop the ability to market your products well. They should offer something different than products available in the market.

Did you know that 97% people fail at network marketing? This is because they do not use the right resources that can help them multiply their earning potential. You may have worked as a marketing professional but network marketing is a different ball game altogether. You must know how to leverage the internet for your success. Instead of running behind leads, the leads should come to you. This is where you should take help of a mentor or a guide, who can tell you the secrets of multi level marketing, network marketing and internet marketing and how you can apply techniques from each of these to become truly successful.

Or better yet, find a mentor who knows about getting your out there, especially in the cyber world. A mentor who knows the in and outs in regards to Internet Marketing. This has proven to be the difference between success and failure. Find a qualified mentor who you can reach at anytime (within reason) and who can be a cheerleader for you through the good and hard times.

2008 Worst College Football Teams - If it Were Not For Losers, There Wouldn't Be Winners

"Without losers, there wouldn't be winners" - unknown author, but probably a loser. As we approach the climax of the college football season, The Sage of College Football (your humble author) suggests that we turn our attention for a few moments to those programs that once held such promise in the late summer months, only to smack their noodles into the frozen artificial turf of December's reality. For some teams, season ending games conclude with the ritual of tearing down of goalposts. Others result in the school selling off unused hot dogs from the stadium deep freeze to starving students who spent their student loan money on beer.

At the professional level, teams that finish at the bottom refer to this time of year as the beginning of golf season. And given the paychecks of most players and coaches, they don't have to worry much about competing with retirees for tee times. The one disappointment in 2008 has been that in writing about the college game, the Sage can't slam the Detroit Lions. The pitiful old motor city franchise looks as it has finally blown all it's gaskets and not even the team ownership seems to care. At least Lions players get paid something for losing. Professional players have a paycheck coming in and a vacation to look forward to. At the college level though, players on losing teams are compelled to visit their respective Religious Studies Departments to seek inner peace. Their coaches seek employment.

Fans of losing college teams also use the offseason for contemplative reflection. One of the more interesting observations occurs when the over-dedicated fan reviews how much money was spent following the team into the toilet. Season tickets, beer and liquor, nachos and hot dogs and the associated medical bills really add up.

Mental Health experts concluded long ago that dedicating too much time effort and money on one's team is also hard on relationships. For those fans lucky enough to have identified a different-sex partner to share the misery of a disastrous season, this presents a double-edged sword. On one hand, the fan may have someone with whom to share the burdens of recovery. On the other, the left over bills and charge card accounts may run double. And for what? Seeing their team scrape together one or two wins against lower division opponents?

Sports Information Offices use this time to come up with new promotional ideas. The Sage has always wanted to be in on an SIO meeting after a 1 and 11 campaign. The new promo ideas generally center on how to convince alumni to overlook the annual season ticket price increase. Or... how to creatively inform alumni that their reserved parking places that have been in the family for generations, are being discontinued so that the school can construct a new kiln for the Art department. Names of alumni that agree to repurchase their seats at iNFLated prices are handed over to the University Development Office for immediate inclusion in the fund raising effort du jour.

A common technique used by losing institutions is to cloud the record of the past year by introducing a new head coach. Individuals agreeing to take these jobs generally extract huge sums for this. Standing before confused and bewildered fans and players and promising to right the ship by "changing the way we think" and "bringing in a winning attitude" is something that should generate a huge paycheck by itself. Saying this stuff with a straight face takes talent. The Detroit Lions ownership should be taking notice... this is at least something to try.

The university staff at Washington has a unique challenge this year. The abysmal Huskies competed a 0-12 season capped off by a 48-7 shellacking at the hands of Cal - hardly the kind of game one wants to end a season on. At least they played that one in Berkeley. Adding misery to insult, the Huskies perfect record sets a new mark for futility within the Pac-10. The wise old Sage of College Football (your humble author) can't wait to see how the institution spins this one. The Huskies have already completed their search for a new head coach and have convinced a Mr. Steve Sarkisian to give up some great weather at Southern Cal to take over the Pac-10's doormat program. The Sage wishes Coach Sark a hearty "good luck." He may learn to appreciate the fog that rolls into Husky Stadium. It does make players, coaches and the future difficult to see.

The Huskies however, aren't the only college team with a lot to forget from 2008. And it is indeed time to put the final nail in the 2008 coffin for these teams. Looking ahead, some of these programs will emerge from the ranks of the worst to achieve respectability. Others will trip and fall on their snooters coming out of the locker room for the spring game.

It is will pride then, that the Sage of College Football presents his picks for the worst 10 teams in college football. However, we should first review a few rules. Primarily, only teams that actually harbor any ambition to become BCS qualified or to -gasp- compete for a national championship one day, are included. Secondly, only major conferences are included. When was the last Middle-America or Conference USA team that had a shot at a big time title? The Sage isn't thinking that Eastern, Central or Western Michigan seriously entertain thoughts of a national championship. So.. without further ado, here are the Sage's picks for the 10 worst college football teams of 2008.

1. Washington Huskies -

Obviously....The purple dogs of the northwest found a way to get the job done in all games this year, including some monumental defeats to Notre Dame, USC and UCLA. Admittedly these are cherry-picked games, but the soggy doggies of Seattle lost these games by a combined score of 116 to 14. In the process, the poor purple team sent its fans off to Starbucks early in each home game. Even though the Huskies kept a game or two close for a while, they still gave up a grand total of 136 points more than they scored in seven home games this year.

2. Washington State Cougars -

It is usually a good season if the Cougars beat archrival and Pac-10 foe Washington in the annual campaign. Unfortunately for the Cougars, that was their only conference win. Interestingly, the only other Cougar victory occurred back in September against a team from Portland State. The Sage is unsure when the Big Sky Conference boasted its last national contender. The state of Washington deserves a honorable mention in the 2008 FirstWorst rankings this year for producing two of the most dismal gridiron performances in history.

3. Idaho Vandals -

The Sage has endured another season waiting in vain for Idaho to change its hapless name. The name "Vandals" would normally inspire images of a wild hoard sacking villages and carrying off opposing cheerleaders. This team doesn't provide much - other than a good excuse to carry off a few cold ones from the local Git N Go. The only Vandal victories (admittedly a contradiction in terms) came in games against other awful programs at New Mexico State and Idaho State.

4. New Mexico State Aggies -

The Sage thought that all programs named "Aggies" had been forced into a change by disgruntled alumni. Particularly for anyone that lives within smelling distance of Las Cruces, you know there isn't a lot of agribusiness taking place there except for the miles of feedlots along I-10. One would think that the school would be anxious to change the name and perhaps try to attract a quality recruit or two. Unfortunately for these Aggies, the 2008 team should have been forced off the field. Despite a decent win against archrival Texas El Paso, the Aggies could only manage more points in games against Alcorn and Nevada.

5. Indiana Hoosiers -

It is alternately a pleasure and a bit of a disappointment to include a Big Ten team in the FirstWorst rankings. One of college football's most storied conferences boasts a tradition of great rivalries and thrilling games. Unfortunately at Indiana, the rivalry is with the basketball program to see who can attract more fans to a single game. Since Bobby Knight's departure, even this has become interesting. Still, basketball at Indiana attracts great athletes who might be able to give the football team a good game. Indiana does deserve credit for trying to follow a proven pathway to respectability. After scheduling games with Western Kentucky and someone called Murray State (also from Kentucky) the Hoosiers minimized travel costs in paying someone to visit the school and lose. After a 2-0 start, the Hoosiers returned to reality, managing only one conference win - their Homecoming Game over Northwestern.

6. Duke Blue Devils -

The Bluish Devils have been a favorite whipping boy for the first worst rankings over the years. As they play in one of the monster football conferences, winning seasons are few and far between. However one would think that with all the brain power at Duke, the program should at least compete for something besides last place. To their credit, Duke did manage a couple reasonably good quality wins over Virginia and Vanderbilt. Imagine calling a win over the Cavaliers and Commodores "quality" wins.

7. Louisville Cardinals -

These Cardinals had a really good schedule in their 2008 campaign to get back into the bowl picture. But by giving up nearly 200 points in their last five games sealed their place in the FirstWorst rankings. The Cards finished strong with a five game losing streak including losses to Syracuse and a 64 to 14 smackdown at the hands of Rutgers.

8. Syracuse Orange -

Teams with singular team names (Orange or in Stanford's case, 'Cardinal') deserve to lose. Football is a team game played by multiple players. Although it may be grammatically correct to call a team a singular name, the practice strays from well established tradition and teams that stray from tradition deserve to get whacked. But we digress... Syracuse did manage to beat #7 Louisville in 2008. They also managed a win over the powerhouse program at Northeastern. For each team, there is one game that justifies the annual season ticket price increase, and Syracuse didn't disappoint, by delivering a solid effort in an exciting win over Notre Dame in late November. Still one quality win does not a season make.

9.San Diego State Aztecs -

Oh Ouch! A season with wins over Idaho and Nevada Las Vegas doesn't qualify as a banner year. Still the Aztecs play in San Diego and the recruits that signed up to play there are thanking their lucky stars that they didn't sign with Buffalo or someplace where it gets cold. And after a loss, Aztec players can still go to the beach and oogle the babes in bikinis. The Aztecs had some decent games on the schedule for 2008 and they came through by losing most of them - including a 21-13 loss to Notre Dame in week two. The Aztec's best effort came against Brigham Young, in which the Aztecs uncharacteristically delivered a strong road win 41 - 12. Alumni should be looking for their price increases in
the mail shortly.

10. Wyoming Cowboys -

Any teams playing in brown home uniforms are going to have trouble on the field. Recruiting players to cold and windswept Laramie is difficult enough without dressing them up in the same colors as -well - the part of the cold and windswept prairie that is used by cows. For many years one of the tallest buildings in the state of Wyoming was the football stadium. And now the Cowboy faithful can expect to pay a bit more for their seats in War Memorial Stadium due to the Cowboys win over (I can't believe I'm writing this) the Tennessee Volunteers. Granted, UT had a difficult year, but losing to Wyoming? Oweee! Anyway.. the Cowboys managed a top ten first worst finish by managing only one Mountain West win and that over San Diego State.

So the 2008 college football season comes to a close for the programs at the bottom. The off season will be filled with coaches looking for work and players looking for cheerleaders. No doubt the Detroit Lions coaching staff will be surveying the ranks of first worst schools scouring for players willing to continue their losing tradition.

As college football fans wait for the spring games and look for ways to build false hope for 2009, the Sage will continue to bring you the wild and outrageous side of losing.

Women As Business Mentors

Something that I have learned is that not all of us though treat women as seriously as we do men when it comes to getting help starting a business or taking advice from a women, and that just boggles my mind. I have become friends with many successful women business owners online over the past few months and when it comes to taking advice from them I listen and take it to heart. You see men and women both have different perspectives on businesses and and if you are ignoring what a women has to say then it is truly your loss. Read on:

What is a Women Business Mentor?
A mentor is someone that you can look up to and learn from, especially in the business field. It is someone who has been down that road before and can offer you lots of tips and advice. Successful business women know all about the pitfalls and hardships of opening a business and she can tell you how to avoid them and how to make the most of your business. She might be able to advise you on how to get started in writing a business plan, who to contact for financial loans or tax help or even how to find a suitable location for your new business.

In addition, a business mentor can give you emotional support. This is very important when it comes to opening your business. It takes a lot of work and the emotional toll can be taxing. Sometimes you need to talk to someone who has been in your shoes and understands your feelings. Opening a business is a tricky thing and you will most certainly experience ups and downs. A business mentor can be your cheerleader during those times and can be there to celebrate your successes.

Finding a Mentor:
There are many great sources for finding a mentor for you. You may already know a successful woman willing to give you help and advice. If you don't already know someone in your area that you can count on, you can join a local business group that will have many people that have started their own business. A rotary club or local chamber of commerce are all good sources. Go to the meetings and take the time to get to know the other business owners. Ask them for advice and once you get to know them, stay in contact with them. This is called networking and can really help you and your business become a success both now and in the future.

While it is very hard to start a new business, a good mentor is often the key to finding the help you need. You will need help getting your business off the ground and you will come in contact with many different types of people during this process. There are many things you will need during your endeavor, but many times, a good ear and some encouragement from someone who knows will be your best help.

Lsu's Football Team Plays in the NCAA Division I - FBS College Football Division

LSU's football team plays in the NCAA Division I-FBS college football division. The home games are played in Tiger Stadium which is a rather large stadium. It holds 92,400 people. The student section is always packed at every game and no one who has seats in this section sits down for any part of any game. The team at LSU has won four national championships with their most recent being 2007 as of this writing. This has place the LSU Tigers as the first team to ever win two Bowl Championship Series titles. Their national championships were is 1958, 2003, and 2007. They have won 10 SEC Championships in the years 1935, 1936, 1958, 1961, 1970, 1986, 1988, 2001, 2003, 2007.

The Tigers will enter the 2008 season with some impressive stats. They can claim 693 victories. This makes them the 12th team with the most wins in NCAA history. They are also the 4th most of all the SEC teams. They only are behind Alabama with 787 wins, Tennessee with 771 wins and Georgia with 714 wins.

The team's official mascot is Mike the Tiger. He can be found on the campus in his state-of-the-art facility and up until recently has been the traditional Bengal Tiger. The last two Mikes were mixed breeds but were still beautiful. Since the 1950s at games, Mike the Tiger is portrayed by a student in costume. LSU adopted the "Tigers" nickname in 1896. The name is a tribute to the state of Louisiana's Confederate heritage. The Troops of the Louisiana division of Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia became the Tigers during the Civil War. This was due to their courageous and heroic deeds of the two New Orleans brigades, the Tiger Rifles and the Washington Artillery. The Washington Artillery had a logo featuring the face of a snarling tiger head.

The first Mike lived a long time with LSU. He had a life span of 20 years from 1936-1956 and was purchased by the LSU student body from the Little Rock Zoo for a big whopping $750. He is now on permanent display in the LSU Natural Sciences Museum on the campus in Baton Rouge.

Rumors and superstition surround each of the tigers that have had the honor to be named as Mike the Tiger. LSU's football team's winning and losing streaks are attributed by many to the health and happiness of each of the 6 tigers that have lived on the LSU campus since the first Mike came to live there in 1936. With four of the five previous Mikes having lived to at least seventeen years of age, there may be something to these rumors. The present Mike VI is kept in splendor at a $3 million habitat built in 2005 especially designed for the needs of Mike. The funds came completely from private sources and the habitat has state-of-the-art amenities. Mike is kept in style with a 24 hour on-call veterinarian from the LSU Veterinary School always in attendance. The place has lush plantings, a waterfall and a flowing stream with a wading pond. There are rocks for Mike to sun himself on and the preserve is 15,000 square feet in size.

There are traditions that the LSU football team observes with Mike. Some are quite entertaining. Mike rides through Tiger stadium just before the start of home games with the LSU Cheerleaders perched on top of his cage. Everyone knows that LSU will score a touchdown for every roar that Mike lets go of on game day. And the most humorous tradition involves the opposing team on home football game days. Mike's cage is parked by the door of the opponent's locker room located at the southeast end of Tiger Stadium. The opposing team has to walk (or run) by Mike in order to get to their locker room.
LSU football is all about tradition and Mike is a great part of that long tradition.

Network Marketing's Super Bowl Gala

Image : http://www.flickr.com

A network marketing company that I am associated with (without throwing a" plug" they should remain numis ooppss nameless) is holding their international convention this week in Tampa Florida. Since I am a Florida resident (at the time) I decided to attend. Incredible! The amount of knowledge for network marketers or Multi Level Marketers to experience is amazing. The "hoopla" surrounding this event is beyond words. Equivalent to a Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four or the World Series. I have been to a Final Four and to a World Series and let me tell you the hype, and the excitement is the same! Anyone who is in the network marketing industry should be attending these events. Why you may ask?

The Super Bowl has its week (sometimes two weeks) of build up, the coaches and players interviewed by media from around the world. The dinners and parties, it goes on and on and on! How about the commercials during the game, these seemed to have taken on a life of their own. Then there is the halftime show, which always has a huge star performing along with many extras. Network marketers can benefit (and may I add enjoy) these very same things. March Madness is now one of the highest ranked television events of the year. Pure excitement at its best. During the Final Four weekend, there is a convention for all NCAA coaches, most of the well-known coaches are in attendance. The pep bands, cheerleaders and fans keep this weekend one big pep rally!

Network Marketing conventions seem to be no different. The "hoopla" leading up to the convention starts somewhere about a month before. All the ads and emails packed with information and those enticing discount offers. Of course, the build up includes the list of guest speakers or the "Gurus" of network marketing. Without mentioning names, attendees to the convention have the opportunity to talk with countless number of the aforementioned marketing superstars. The breakout sessions are informative and provide the bulk of the convention as does the Super Bowl game or the championship game at the Final Four. The bands played music throughout and the food was served with no end.

With balloons and confetti dropping from the ceiling as in the Super Bowl, a champion or winner is crowned. The winner at the network marketing convention is you! A champion because the experience of attending has provided you with learning experience second to none, along with the intrinsic feeling of "I can make this happen"! Winners will attend and Winners will participate because as always, "Winners Do What Losers Won't".
