Coaching Youth Football - Coaches Notebook

Don't take anything for granted about what players know. Tell them everything that could possibly happen on a play, offense or defense. For Example, there position of there feet on a block or if you are talking to the backs, what a linebacker will do. Write everything you know down for the positions you coach; Hits, drills, tricks, knowledge of what could happen on a play. Convey this to each position. Also have a section from discussions on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down plays according to field position. Have stat people be aware of the same.

- Have a classroom on plays; New plays and special plays.

- Last year coaches and captains have have a Monday night playbook makeup.

- Walk through plays. Make sure offense and defense know as much about the other team as possible.

- Work hard on special team play.

- Defense watch the ball. NO off sides.

- If you are practicing goal line plays, offense or defense, practice at the goal line.

- Repetition.

- Teach during the week so on Sunday they react

Begin every season with the belief that your going to win. Play to win. Winning is expected. When playoff time comes you will be there. No matter what the score or what the situation. Always believe you are going to win. Never think you are going to do anything but win.
